Eastside Precision Drill Team
Eastside Precision Drill Team is an organization founded in March of 2007 for girls to learn and perform precision drill team. We have a great group of girls ready to welcome you to our family and join in the fun. If you're looking for a more dance-style drill team please give us some consideration. The basic principles of drill team still apply and we have a lot of fun. We currently have 16 members ranging in age from 7 to 16. As the name "Eastside" implies, you don't have to live where we practice in Redmond or attend a specific school to join our team. Our team is open to girls from anywhere in the greater "Eastside" area and beyond. We are working on building 2 teams; junior (ages 5 up to 12 - Note - girls over 9 will be placed on junior or senior based on ability) and senior (ages up to 18). We have a great group of junior marchers and are eagerly looking for more middle school and high school girls to build our senior team. Of course we welcome new members of both Jr. and Sr. ages, so come join the fun!
We practice on Tuesdays 6-7:30pm Redmond Elementary School We practice outside behind the Elementary School (16800 N.E. 80th St., Redmond)
LOW COST We are a low cost activity charging only $15 per month. We do not turn away kids who can't afford to participate. We are not sponsored by any business so we rely on our team members and parents to participate in fund raisers (Selling candy bars, car washes, garage sales, etc.). Our staff do not receive payment for their time - they are volunteers who LOVE drill team. Other drill team type activities (cheer, dance) charge much more than our group or require you to be a student at their school. We believe the benefits and low cost of our team make it worth stopping by for a visit. SMALL TIME COMMITMENT We have a 1.5 hour practice once a week. We add additional practices February to July for the members who are selected for the competition teams. This is a small time commitment leaving plenty of time for kids to complete homework. During the summer team members will have an increased time commitment with the team as we participate in parades but practices do not increase. Our practices are closed to visitors (parents and family) so this is time that parents can spend running errands, reading a book, catching up on paperwork, or just enjoying quiet time. We currently have team members in Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish, and Bothell and CAR POOLING is usually available. LIGHT ATHLETICS We considered our activity to be light athletics with most kids of all ages being capable of performing our style of marching with little difficulty. Kids will learn to march in rhythm with the team and coordinate their arms with their feet while the team maneuvers into formations. BENEFITS Many studies have shown that girls who are involved in sports and other team activities have higher self-esteem, more self- confidence, and are less likely to participate in risky behaviors (crime, drugs, etc). Our team provides an activity that will build self-confidence and self-esteem. Our team teaches teamwork, respect for others (adults and peers), along with responsibility for our actions. We strive to appreciate each team member for who they are and show them that they are valued as a team member and as a person. PARENTS Parent participation is welcome at any level. You do not have to come to all the parades or organize events or chair fundraisers. We do ask that parents support the team with fundraisers that are adult only in nature. Our team has a few key support functions that require parent's help so if you want to jump in we can give you something to do. Like any team activity, participation by the team members in practices and events is key to building a team so at a minimum we ask for parents to make attendance a priority.

The Seattle Drill Team Association's All City competition was held on April 25th 2009. This was the first marching event for many of our team members and the first competition for all team members. We are incredibly proud of our girls, how they performed and how hard they worked to learn all the counts, formations, and hand drills. Now, one year later, the team has come so far in their performance skills. Please check out our performance at the 2010 Seattle Drill Team Association's All City Competition.
